The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on July 24, 2024, notified the draft Telecommunications (Commercial Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency to Operate Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated: -
•Rule 2 lays down various definitions of the terms like International Telecommunication Convention and Radio Regulations.
•Rule 3 specifies that no person shall operate GMDSS except under and in accordance with the terms and conditions of a GMDSS Certificate granted under these rules.
•Rule 4 mentions the Categories of GMDSS certificates and eligibility.
•Rule 5 is about the Application for examination for the grant of GMDSS GOC.
The objections or suggestions can be submitted after the expiry of a period of thirty days from July 24, 2024.
