The Ministry of Communications (MoC) on July 24, 2024, issued the DRAFT Telecommunications (Amateur Station Operator) Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that no person shall install or operate an amateur station except under and in accordance with the terms and conditions of an ASOC granted under these rules.
• It shall grant ASOC in two categories "Amateur Station Operator's Certificate (General) and (Restricted)".
• It states that an eligible shall make an application for appearing for the Amateur Station Operator's examination for obtaining the ASOC, to the Central Government no later than one month before the date of such examination
• It states that an ASOC holder shall not require a separate authorization to import amateur radio equipment.
• It states that the ASOC holder shall be permitted to install and operate an amateur station on board a ship registered in India, upon placing a specific request.
• It states the provision for using ASOC for activities of an amateur society in schools, colleges, or other institutions.

The Objections or suggestions, if any, with respect to this draft rules shall be taken into consideration till August 24, 2024, and may be sent to " the Joint Secretary (Telecom), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, Sanchar Bhawan, 20, Ashoka Road, New Delhi - 110001".
