The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) on July 31, 2024, issued a notification regarding relaxation in obtaining OTP-based signatures in the D-KYC process for issuing mobile connections to foreign nationals visiting India.
The following has been stated: -
•It has been decided by the competent authority that the requirement of obtaining the signature of the customer by sending OTP on the alternate mobile number, as mentioned in para j. of D-KYC instructions is made optional for issuing mobile connections to foreign nationals visiting India. Further, the Licensee may send OTP via email to foreign nationals as an alternate method if sending OTP on an alternate number is not feasible.
•It is clarified that this relaxation shall apply only to foreign nationals visiting India.
