The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) on June 19, 2024, notified the Merchant Shipping (Ships and Port Facility Security) Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated: -
•These rules shall apply to —
(a)Any Indian ship regardless of its type, wherever it may be: Provided that for this sub-rule, such application shall be determined under Schedule – I.
(b)Any ship other than an Indian ship referred to in clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 344J calling at any Indian port or any Indian offshore facility or at anchorage.
or (c)To any Indian port facility.
•Rule 3 lays down various definitions of terms like approved training institute and contracting government.
•Rule 4 specifies the Responsibilities of the designated authority.
They shall come into force on June 19, 2024.
