The Ministry of Defence on August 02, 2024, issued the Dalhousie Cantonment Board (Digging and Use of Bore Wells) Regulations, 2024.
This shall come into force on August 05, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the Cantonment Board shall survey existing bore wells, including their operational history and daily water extraction, and assess groundwater levels within its jurisdiction with assistance from the Ministry of Jal Shakti or relevant State Government agencies.
• It states that the Cantonment Board shall survey to ensure drinking water quality and potability, check for contamination from effluent sources, and evaluate applications for new bore wells based on existing water supply, quality, use, and groundwater availability.
• It states that the groundwater extracted shall not be sold without authority permission, and if an unauthorized sale is detected, the registration will be suspended immediately, the bore well and flow meter will be sealed, and the user shall be fined up to fifty thousand rupees.
• It states that every applicant shall ensure the erection of rainwater harvesting structures and practice rainwater harvesting, while the Cantonment Board shall be responsible for ensuring their functionality and conducting periodic surveys for verification.
