The Municipal Corporation Jalandhar on July 26, 2024, notified the Solid Waste Management, Cleanliness, and Sanitation Bye-Laws, 2024.
The following has been stated-
•These Bylaws shall be applicable within the territorial jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar established under the provisions of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.
•These Bylaws shall also apply to any Solid Waste that is collected, transported, processed, and disposed of outside the jurisdiction of MCJ as long as such Solid Waste originates within the jurisdictional limits. Similarly, the Bylaws shall apply to any waste originating from outside MCJ’s jurisdiction but being disposed of within.
•Commercial entities that generate on average more than 50kgs of waste per day (of all waste streams put together) or located in an area above 3000sq mts or restaurant(s) with more than 200 seating capacity or all 3-star and above hotel(s).
•Institutional Bulk Waste Generators are also illustrated.
•Segregation of Solid Waste into different categories at Source and storage is stated.
•Responsibilities of specific categories of Waste Generators are defined.
They shall come into force upon approval by the elected Council of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar and with effect from its publication in the Official Gazette by the State Government.
