The Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) on August 05, 2024, issued a communique regarding the protection of investors from Unsolicited Commercial Communication.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It is in reference to communique CDSL/OPS/DP/POLCY/2024/274 dated May 22, 2024, informing important guidelines issued by TRAI for sending commercial communication using telecom resources through voice calls or SMS and advising DPs to take necessary measures for effective implementation of the guidelines issued by TRAI.
• It is stated that SEBI-registered intermediaries shall comply with Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations, 2018, register on the DLT platform for digital consent, use the 140 series for promotional and 160 series for transactional calls, manage SMS headers efficiently, and ensure the confidentiality and security of customer data.
• It is stated that Depository Participants (DP) shall educate investors to file complaints for spam or unsolicited communication via the TRAI DND App, or Call/SMS to 1909, or report suspected fraud to the Chakshu Platform (https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/sfc/Home/sfc-complaint.jsp) and report actual fraud to the Cyber Crime helpline number 1930 or website (https://www.cybercrime.gov.in).
