Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra on August 30, 2024, issued the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles (1st Amendment) Rules, 2024, to further amend the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The following amendment has been stated:

• For rule 54-A, which states “Allotment of Registration Mark”, the following rule shall be substituted, namely:

o The Registration Mark to be assigned to the motor vehicles, shall be as per the notification issued by the Central Government under sub-section (6) of section 41 of the Act.

o On receipt of an application in the prescribed Form 20, of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the Registering Authority shall assign the registration mark which falls in serial order after the last registration mark assigned.

o The Registering Authority shall reserve a registration mark to the owner of a motor vehicle of his choice from amongst the following registration marks on payment of fees as specified in the table.
