General Compliance

The Government of Karnataka on September 10, 2024, issued a notification regarding the payment of outstanding property tax under the jurisdiction of Burhat Bangalore Mahanagara Corporation.

There have been several cases of wrongly declaring property tax under the self-declaration property tax system under the jurisdiction of Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation. In such cases, the amount charged as arrears, fines and interest was huge and the property owners had to face financial hardship. To overcome this problem One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme has been implemented till date July 31, 2024, vide Government Order dated February 22, 2024, in the public interest.

A large number of property owners wanted to take advantage of the OTS scheme, but in the last days of the scheme, most of the taxpayers tried to pay the tax online, due to server problems, property tax payment was not possible. Therefore, in view of the request of the taxpayer, the OTS scheme has been ordered to be extended up to date: September 30, 2024.

If the property owner who has declared the property tax under the self-declaration property tax system wants to revise it upwards due to the lack of provision in the rules, there is unnecessary delay and there is a request to allow such revision. Further, in case of collection of tax on assets outside the ambit of property tax and cases of revision as in cases of defaulters, there is also a demand for levy of penalty amount of Rs. 100/-

In view of the factors outlined in the proposal, extend the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for payment of outstanding property tax under the Burhat Bangalore Mahanagara Corporation till November 30, 2024, with the following conditions:

• SAYAM has ordered upward revision for property owners who have self-declared property tax if they find that they have to pay more property tax. It is treated as a tax return filed by the owner of the property. There will be an opportunity to revise the tax.

• Revision during the OTS period, non-assessors and sustainers will be fined Rs.100/- per annum in all these cases. Also, the amount of interest to be paid.
