The Government of Puducherry on September 02, 2024, issued a notification regarding the revision of the minimum rates of wages in respect of the employees employed in different occupations in the Union Territory.
The Minimum rates of wages in respect of the employees employed in the following occupations-
•Shops & Establishments
•Automobile Workshop
•Bakeries and Biscuit manufacturing
•Bricks and Tile manufactory
•Carpentry
•Chemical Industry
•Electronic Industry
•Food Processing Industry
•General Engineering
•Hotels and Restaurants
•Leather Goods Manufactory
•Petroleum Gas Cylinder
•Oil Mills
•Paper and related Manufactory
•Plastic Industry
•Rice, Flour, Dhall Mills
•Security Guard
•Tailoring Industry
•Taxi Autorickshaw
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that The Dearness Allowance is linked to the average Puducherry Consumer Price Index Points for 2021 i.e., 366 points (Base year 2001=100).
• The Dearness Allowance shall be calculated every year on the 1st of April based on the average consumer price indices for the preceding 12 months namely, from January to December.
• It states that there shall be no discrimination in the payment of Minimum rates of wages shall be made in respect of male and female employees.
• It states that to arrive at the monthly wages, the daily rates shall be multiplied by 30.
• It further states that in case the existing wages are higher than the minimum rates of wages fixed herein, the same higher wages shall continue to be paid.
