The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) on September 10, 2024, issued a notification regarding simplifying the procedure for public consultation required as a pre-requisite for the grant of Environmental Clearance to be granted under the provisions of EIA Notification, 2006.
The following has been stated: -
•The industrial and other development projects and activities listed in the schedule appended to the EIA Notification dated September 14, 2006, require prior Environmental Clearance (EC) from the MoEF&CC/SEIAA, Punjab (as the case may be), by the procedures specified in the notification.
•The public consultation is one of the four stages for the grant of environmental clearance. Further, the procedure for public consultation is laid in the Appendix IV of the EIA Notification, 2006.
•A status report on site suitability, construction status, and adequacy of pollution control proposals is being sought from the field offices for incorporating the same while sending the proceedings to the MoEF&CC / SEIAA.
