The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on September 10, 2024, issued guidelines for imposition of Environment compensation (EC) under Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
The following has been stated: -
•These guidelines aim to promote sustainable battery waste management practices, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure accountability among stakeholders.
•And the objective is to ensure responsible battery waste management and mitigate environmental harm.
•The EC calculation will be based on waste generation, disposal, and environmental impact, with funds deposited into an environmental fund for waste management and remediation activities.
