The Department of Telecommunication, (DoT) on September 16, 2024, issued amendments/additions in the Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (WANI) Framework and Guidelines for Registration.
The following has been amended-
•Annexure B: Clause (a) (4) (under functions of PDO) of PM WANI Guidelines is modified as follows: “As per the WANI framework, PDOs will avail internet connectivity from licensed Telecom Service Providers (TSP) or Internet Service Providers (ISP) and will have an agreement with PDOA for Aggregation, Authorization, Accounting, and other related functions.
•New Clause (a) (5): Annexure B: (Under functions of PDO) is inserted as follows: 5.A PDO is allowed to take internet connectivity at a single location for ex: a mall, market, shopping complex, bus station etc. and can network up to 100 Access Points to create a single Wi-Fi hotspot.
•Annexure B: Clause (b) (6) (under functions of PDOA) of PM WANI Guidelines is modified as follows: 6. It will be permissible for any two PDOAs to enter into a roaming agreement for permitting each other’s subscribers to access the Internet from any Wi-Fi Access Points associated with them, either directly or via centralized platforms owned by PDOA(s).
•All other terms and conditions shall remain unchanged.
