The Ministry of Labour & Employment, (MoLE) on September 17, 2024, issued a notification regarding Platform Aggregators to Register themselves and their Platform Workers on e-Shram Portal.
The Central Government has initiated efforts to extend social security benefits to gig and platform workers by encouraging platform aggregators to register their workers on the e-Shram portal. This registration is essential for workers to access social welfare schemes and to create a comprehensive registry of beneficiaries. The Ministry has issued an advisory outlining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for aggregators, who are responsible for registering workers, updating their data, and ensuring that workers receive a Universal Account Number (UAN), which will allow access to key benefits.
To further streamline the process, the government has tested API integration with a few aggregators and is advancing the registration process. Aggregators are also advised to update worker details regularly, including work engagement and payment information, and to report any worker exits to maintain accurate records. A toll-free helpline (14434) has been set up to assist with the onboarding process, providing guidance and resolving technical issues.
