The Ministry of Commerce and Industry on September 17, 2024, issued the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
This shall come into force on September 20, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It shall apply to all electrical appliance intended for household, commercial or similar application with rated voltage not exceeding 250V single phase alternating current or 415V three phase alternating current.
• Order 2 states that this shall apply to -Goods or articles specified in column (2) of the Table, but shall not apply to goods or articles meant for export.
• It exempts up to 200 imported goods for research and development by household appliance manufacturers per year, provided they are not sold commercially, can be scrapped, and that manufacturers maintain yearly records to submit to the Central Government if requested.
