The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on September 23, 2024, issued a notification regarding the classification of laboratory chemicals.
The following has been stated: -
•In reference to Notification No.62/2024-Customs (N.T.) dated September 19, 2024, related to notifying amendment in note 3 of chapter 98 of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.
•Laboratory chemicals are defined as all chemicals, organic or inorganic, whether or not chemically defined, imported, and intended only for own use, excluding trading or further sale.
•These chemicals should be in packings not exceeding 500 grams or 500 milliliters. They should have distinct purity, markings, or features indicating their sole use as laboratory chemicals.
•This classification aims to clarify the definition and requirements for laboratory chemicals, ensuring their proper use and regulation in India.
