The Government of Haryana on September 19, 2024, notified the Haryana Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 further to amend the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.
The following has been stated: -
•In section 9 after sub-section (4), the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely: -
(4A) In every Gram Panchayat, the posts of Panch shall be reserved for the Backward Classes and the number of wards so reserved shall, as nearly as may be, be in proportion to the total number of wards in that Gram Panchayat, which shall be half the percentage of population of Backward Classes in the total population of the Gram Sabha.
•After sub-section (4) of section 59 the following sub-section shall be inserted namely: -
(4A) In every Panchayat Samiti there shall be reserved the seats of members for the Backward Classes and the number of wards so reserved shall be, as nearly as may be, in uniform proportion to the total number of wards in that Panchayat Samiti which shall be half the percentage of population of Backward Classes.
