The Labour Department, Govt. of Gujarat on September 04, 2024, notified regarding the procedure for fixation & revision of Minimum wages adopted by the state.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Government of Gujarat periodically fixes and revises minimum wage rates under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, and the Gujarat Minimum Wages Rules, 1961.
• The Act mandates the declaration of minimum wages at specific intervals, with an Advisory Board established to ensure participation from employers, employees, and independent person, where one of the independent person is appointed as Chairman of the Advisory Board members.
• The procedure for fixing and revising minimum wages in Gujarat involves publishing of a draft notification for public objections and suggestions, which are then reviewed by the Minimum Wages Advisory Board, leading to the government's final decision and publication of the revised rates.
