The Labour Department, Government of NCT of Delhi on September 23, 2024, issued an advisory on Bonus Payment for Contractors.
The following has been stated: -
•The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 mandates contractors with 20+ workers to pay a minimum 8.33% bonus by 8 months after the accounting year ends, typically before Deepawali. Contractors are statutorily responsible for payment. Non-compliance risks prosecution and recovery of dues. Principal employers must ensure contractors comply with labor laws, including bonus payments. Authorities urge timely bonus disbursement to outsourced workers before Deepawali.
