The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on September 20, 2024, issued the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Amendment Rules, 2024, to further amend the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Rules, 2023.
The following amendment has been stated:
• In rule 13, which states “Creation of Compensatory Afforestation”, in sub-rule (1), for the third, fourth, and fifth proviso, the following proviso, shall be substituted, namely:
“Provided also in exceptional circumstances when the suitable land required for compensatory afforestation under this sub-rule is not available, the compensatory afforestation may be considered on degraded forest land which is twice in extent to the area proposed to be diverted in case of the Central Government agencies or Central Public Sector Undertakings or captive coal blocks of State Public Sector Undertakings on a case to case basis”.
This notification will come into force from September 20, 2024.
