The Government of West Bengal on September 20, 2024, issued Additional Guidelines' in continuation with the guidelines in respect of the operation of ODTTA.
After careful consideration, the following have been stated:
• Motor cycle or two-wheelers, not registered as transport vehicles, will not be allowed to be on-boarded by any aggregator, violation of which will attract Section 193 of MV Act, 1988.
• At any point in time, such bike-taxis should be covered by valid tax, permit, fitness, PUCC etc.
• No driver should drive such type of vehicle without a valid and effective licence and use of protective headgears shall be a must for both for the driver and the rider.
• Bike-taxis will also be allowed to carry passengers (only one passenger at a time), whether being engaged with any aggregator or not.
• While a passenger is riding on a bike-taxi, s/he should carry any luggage or personal effects not more than 10 kilograms and side overhang should not exceed 36 centimetres from the center line of the rear wheel and not more than 15 centimeters beyond the extreme outer edge of the vehicle (Rule 229 of WBMV Rules, 1989).
• Other terms and conditions, as envisaged in Guidelines issued vide this department's Notification No. 652-WT dated March 03, 2022, shall also have to be followed.
