The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on October 07, 2024, notified Draft Liquid Waste Management Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated: -
•These rules apply to all urban and rural local bodies, public authorities, and entities involved in the generation and management of wastewater, sludge from treatment facilities, and fecal sludge. This includes government, private, and public-private partnership entities in various areas such as industrial zones, special economic zones (SEZs), railway properties, airports, ports, and defense establishments. The rules also encompass all landowners, liquid waste generators, and bulk water users, reinforcing and supplementing existing regulations and obligations.
•Rule 3 lays down various definitions of the terms like biochemical oxygen demand and bulk user of water.
•Rule 4 specifies Liquid waste management.
•Objections or suggestions shall be considered before the expiry of sixty days from October 08, 2024.
They shall come into force from October 01, 2025.
