The Government of Andhra Pradesh on September 09, 2024, notified regarding the "Re-Structured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) 2024-26 (Kharif 2024 & 2025 – Rabi 2024-25 & 2025-26).
The following has been stated:
• The Main features/ Operational Modalities:
o Re-Structured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) is a component of the PMFBY designed to provide insurance coverage to farmers against crop losses due to adverse weather conditions. Unlike PMFBY, which is based on yield indices, RWBCIS uses weather parameters such as rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and humidity as proxies for crop yields.
o The RWBCIS offers several advantages over traditional yield-based crop insurance. It directly correlates coverage to weather conditions. By relying on objective weather data, RWBCIS reduces subjectivity and streamlines the claims process. By addressing weather-related risks directly, RWBCIS helps farmers manage uncertainty.
o All the farmers cultivating notified crops in the notified areas are eligible for coverage/enrolment. By providing a safety net, it aims to enhance the resilience of farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the state. The scheme operates under guidelines and directives issued by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DAC & FW).
