The Government of Punjab on October 09, 2024, issued a notification regarding the exemption of Shop Workers from Duty on Election Day.
The following has been stated: -
•The Governor of Punjab has exempted workers in registered shops and establishments from working on October 15, 2024, to allow them to vote in the Gram Panchayat elections. This exemption is granted under Section 10 of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958.
•Workers enrolled as voters within the revenue jurisdiction of the Gram Panchayats are eligible for this exemption. The State Election Commission, Punjab, notified the election dates, prompting this exemption to ensure workers can exercise their franchise.
