The Directorate of Shipping (DGS) on October 09, 2024, notified regarding the issuance of a Seamen Identity Card to Sailing Vessel Crew Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Andaman & Nicobar Sailing Vessel Association highlighted low living standards for crew members, and high turnover due to one-month employment cycles, further, it specifies that new crew members must apply for and obtain a sailing vessel identity card, which presents challenges in the boarding process for the crew members.
• DGS has exempted the passport requirement for applying for Sailing Vessel Seaman Identity Cards for those working on sailing vessels in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with a validity of one year.
• It further specifies that other than the passport requirement all other necessary documents must be uploaded to the online application, along with a processing fee of Rs. 500/- for obtaining the Sailing Vessel Seaman Identity Card.
