The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on October 16, 2024, notified regarding the implementation of the Agreement signed between FSSAI, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Government of India, and the Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA).
The following has been stated namely: -
• An agreement was signed on March 21, 2024, between FSSAI and Bhutan Food and Drug Authority recognizing BFDA's official control over Food Business Operators as equivalent to FSSAI's standards, enabling BFDA to issue Health Certificates for food product exports to India.
• It states certain requirements to ensure compliance and smooth implementation of the agreement:
o Imported food consignments from Bhutan shall be accompanied by a Health Certificate issued by BFDA for NOC approval, with all relevant documents uploaded to e-sanchit.
o Customs officers shall verify these documents before granting NOC, following established verification practices.
