The Directorate of General of Shipping (DGS) on October 15, 2024, issued the notification regarding the Consultation on Proposed revocation of General Orders 1, 2, and 3 (2018).
The following has been stated namely: -
• Attention is drawn to General Orders 1, 2, and 3 of 2018, which state exemptions under Section 407 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958. These orders allowed foreign flag vessels chartered by foreign entities to engage in coastal trade for specific commodities, such as EXIM trans-shipment containers, empty containers, agricultural products, and fertilizers, without a license from the DGS.
• The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is considering the revocation of these General Orders to streamline regulations and improve operational efficiency.
• To gather comprehensive feedback on the possible impacts of revoking these orders, a questionnaire has been prepared. Provide the responses for the same through the Google Forms link https://forms.gle/hWZzFMNTyENs3byx7 / [email protected] by October 27, 2024.
