The Government of Kerala on October 16, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Practice of Modern Medicine Mandatory of Registration.
The Kerala State Medical Council mandates registration for all practitioners of modern medicine in the state, as required by the National Medical Commission Act, 2020, and the Kerala State Medical Practitioners Act, 2021. Displaying unregistered or unrecognized qualifications is punishable, and the council holds the authority to take disciplinary action against hospital managements violating these regulations in advertisements. Medical practitioners must prominently display their State Medical Council registration number, qualifications, and an attested copy of their registration certificate at their place of practice, as well as ensure that only registered qualifications are used in prescriptions, letterheads, and seals.
Medical institutions, including hospitals, clinics, and medical colleges, are required to verify the eligibility of their medical practitioners by checking the original registration certificates issued by the Kerala State Medical Council. Copies of these certificates must be maintained in the institution, and display boards must include the practitioner's name, qualifications, and registration number. Heads of institutions must submit a list of all registered practitioners, including their qualifications and registration details, to the Kerala State Medical Council by October 31, 2024, via email.
