Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Kerala on October 19, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Strict action if an uninsured vehicle is involved in an accident.

The Motor Vehicles Department has issued a circular mandating strict action against uninsured vehicles involved in accidents within the state. Driving without insurance is an offense under Sections 146 and 196 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Section 391A of the Kerala Motor Vehicles Rules (KMVR), punishable by three months imprisonment or a fine of Rs 2000. If an uninsured vehicle is involved in an accident, the SHO of the respective police station will be notified, and the offense will be added to the charge sheet. Additionally, accident details will be accurately recorded in the e-dar software.
