The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on October 23, 2024, notified the National Electricity Plan Volume II – Transmission.
The following has been stated: -
•India's electricity demand has surged significantly, with a CAGR of about 9.46% from 2022-24. The National Electricity Plan (Volume II: Transmission) outlines a detailed strategy for expanding the transmission system, targeting an increase to 609.6 GW of generation capacity by 2026-27 to meet a projected peak demand of 277 GW.
•Despite some delays in transmission projects due to various challenges, substantial progress was made from 2017-22, achieving 107% of the transformation capacity target.
•The plan emphasizes the integration of renewable energy sources, with 111 GW of wind and 208 GW of solar expected to be connected to the grid.
