The Health and Family Welfare (F) Department, Kerala on October 22, 2024, issued the revised Kerala State Guidelines on Monkeypox Disease.
The following has been stated: -
•Mpox (formerly Monkeypox) is an infectious disease caused by the Monkeypox virus (MPXV), characterized by rash and fever.
•First discovered in 1958, it primarily affects Central and West Africa, with its first human case reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1970.
•The disease is linked to African rodents and non-human primates but has no known definitive animal reservoir.
•After the eradication of smallpox, Mpox has gained significance in public health, with two main clades identified.
