The Indian Nursing Council, (INC) on October 25, 2024, notified the Indian Nursing Council (Post Basic Diploma in Emergency and Disaster Specialty Nursing - Residency Program) Regulations, 2023.
The following has been stated-
The Council, in alignment with the National Health Policy 2017, has introduced a one-year competency-based Post Basic Diploma in Emergency and Disaster Specialty Nursing. This residency program is designed to train registered nurses as specialists in emergency and disaster management to meet the rising healthcare demands in India due to lifestyle changes and increased emergency cases. The curriculum incorporates foundational courses in professionalism, communication, clinical leadership, and evidence-based research, as well as major specialty courses focusing on emergency nursing fundamentals, diagnosis, treatment, and patient safety across various medical, surgical, and psychiatric emergencies. This program aims to equip nurses with the advanced skills needed to provide high-quality care in complex emergency and disaster situations.
