The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on October 28, 2024, notified regarding the compliance of packaging of sugar in Jute Packaging material as per the provisions of Jute Packaging Material (Compulsory Use in packaging commodities) Act, 1987.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that all the sugar mills shall place their orders for procurement of jute bags for packaging 20% of sugar produced in sugar season 2024-25.
• It further states that all the sugar mills shall furnish the information on jute packaging in monthly P-2 from October 2024, onwards.
• It also mentions that non-compliance shall result in strict action under the Sugar (Control) Order, 1966, and Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
