Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Power (MoP) on October 25, 2024, issued the notification regarding the Draft Electricity (Late Payment Surcharge and Related Matters) (Amendment) Rules, 2024 to further amend the Electricity (Late Payment Surcharge and Related Matters) Rules, 2022.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Rule 1 which states “Short title, Commencement and Applicability” sub-rule (3) has been substituted namely: -

• Rule 5 which states “Liquidation of arrears” sub-rule (6) has been inserted namely: -

"(6) Any outstanding dues not communicated by the distribution licensee and arising from court orders issued after the enforcement of the Principal Rules shall be settled in accordance with the procedure outlined in the court order. 

Provided that if the court order does not specify a settlement procedure, the dues shall be rescheduled as per sub-rule (1) of Rule 5.”
