The Ministry Of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) on October 29, 2024, issued the Draft Inland Vessels (Life Saving Appliances) (First Amendment) Rules, 2024, to further amend the Inland Vessels (Life Saving Appliances) Rules, 2022.
The following amendment has been stated:
• In rule 7, which states “Technical Requirements”, for sub-rule (1), the following shall be substituted, namely:
“Every life-saving appliance provided as per provisions of these rules shall be approved by the Classification Society or be type approved by the Mercantile Marine Department.”
• In rule 7, which states “Technical Requirements”, sub-rule (2) shall be renumbered as sub-rule (3) before sub-rule (3) and so renumbered, the following sub-rule shall be inserted, namely:
“(2) the approval or type-approval, as the case may be, shall be granted under sub-rule (1), subject to compliance with the standards specified in:
o The International Life Saving Appliance Code provided in the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974; or
o International Organization for Standardisation.”
