The Ministry of Communications on October 30, 2024, notified Telecommunications (Commercial Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency to Operate Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated: -
•Rule 2 lays down various definitions of the terms like Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Certificate.
•Rule 3 specifies that no person shall operate the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System except under and in accordance with the terms and conditions of a GMDSS Certificate granted under these rules.
•Rule 4 specifies categories of GMDSS certificates and eligibility.
They shall come into force on November 01, 2024.
