The Veterinary Council of India (VCI) on November 12, 2024, issued the Draft Veterinary Council of India-Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education- Postgraduate (M.V.Sc/Ph.D.) Regulations, 2023.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Goals of Postgraduate Veterinary Education Programme:
The goal of postgraduate Veterinary education shall be to produce competent Veterinary specialists/ teachers/scientists:
o Who shall recognize the animal welfare, husbandry and health needs of the community, and carry out professional obligations ethically and in keeping with the objectives of the national animal welfare, husbandry and health policy;
o Who shall have mastered the competencies, pertaining to the specialty, that are required to be practiced at the secondary and the tertiary levels of the animal health care and husbandry delivery system;
o Who shall be aware of the contemporary advances and developments in the discipline concerned;
• General Objectives of Postgraduate Training Expected from Students at the End of Postgraduate Training:
At the end of the postgraduate training in the discipline concerned the student shall be able to:
o Recognize the importance of the concerned specialty in the context of the animal welfare, health, husbandry and production needs of the community and the national priorities in the livestock sector.
o Practice the specialty concerned ethically.
o Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the basic sciences relevant to the concerned specialty.
