The Ministry of Coal on November 27, 2024, issued a notification regarding Exploring Alternative Energy Sources.
The following has been stated: -
•The Government of India has taken several initiatives to develop Coal Bed Methane (CBM) and Underground Coal Gasification (UCG), with active CBM blocks in production, development, and exploration stages.
•It also focuses on environmental sustainability in coal mining, ensuring compliance with environmental and forestry clearances, pollution control measures, and reforestation efforts. Regular monitoring and reclamation activities are carried out, and a mine closure plan is integrated into projects.
•Additionally, the government aims to increase coal production to 1.5 billion tonnes by 2029-30 to meet domestic power sector demand.
