The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) on December 05, 2024, issued Draft Inland Vessels (Registration and other Technical Issues) (First Amendment) Rules, 2024 to amend the Inland Vessels (Registration and other Technical Issues) Rules, 2022.
The following has been stated: -
•The Inland Vessels (Registration and Other Technical Issues) Rules, 2022 have been amended to clarify that the Gross Tonnage of vessels above 24 meters will be calculated according to the 1969 International Tonnage Convention, while vessels below 24 meters will follow the 1991 Merchant Shipping rules.
•Changes include updated documentation requirements for registration, such as self-attested instruments of sale and certificates of survey. Additionally, the procedure for granting certificates of registration has been modified to include the retention of key documents.
Objections or suggestions, if any, to these draft rules can be submitted within thirty days from December 06, 2024.
They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
