The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) on December 11, 2024, issued a notification regarding the declaration of the Foodstuffs Industry as a Public Utility Service.
The following has been stated: -
•The Central Government has declared the foodstuffs industry a public utility service under the Industrial Disputes Act, of 1947, due to public interest.
•This declaration is effective for six months, starting from May 9, 2024, as per the Government notification dated May 7, 2024. The decision aims to ensure the continuity of essential services in the food sector. The declaration is made under the powers of the Industrial Disputes Act, of 1947, for a specified period.
