The Kerala State Pollution Control Board, (KeralaSPCB), on August 10, 2024, issued a notification regarding - Categorization of industries into Red/Orange/Green and White categories based on pollution potential which are not included in categorization list.
In alignment with the Central Pollution Control Board's directions, the categorization of industries under Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has been updated to include additional industries/activities, as approved during the Categorization Committee meeting held on 29/05/2024. The following categories are introduced for the respective industries:
Eggshell Powder Production Unit – Green
Treatment Unit with Traditional Medicinal System (excluding Modern Medicine or AYUSH) – White
Charcoal Production from Coconut Shell by Pyrolysis – Orange
Fish Feed Production from Chicken Waste – Orange
Half-Cooked Chapathi Making Unit – White
Iron Scrap Shredding Unit – Green
Furniture Manufacturing/Assembling Using Engineered Wood (e.g., MDF, Particle Board, Plywood) – Green
Printing (excluding digital) on Banners of Approved Material – Orange
Exemption for Acupuncture Treatment Units: These units, generating no biomedical waste or wastewater and not covered under AYUSH, are exempt from obtaining Consent under the Water Act, 1974, and Authorization under the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Industry Type Adjustment for Printing: Categories for gravure printing and digital printing on flex/vinyl/PVC have been removed. Units must apply under the new "Printing (other than digital) on banners of approved material" category under Orange.
Separate Guidelines/SOPs/Distance Criteria will be issued for specific units requiring such directions.
This updated categorization takes effect immediately from the date of issue of the Circular.
