The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on April 03, 2024, issued a circular regarding bringing Residential apartments and Commercial buildings established before 30/6/2015 into Consent purview.
The document outlines a regulation regarding Residential and Commercial buildings operating before June 30, 2015, that have not yet obtained the necessary environmental "Consent to Operate" from the relevant authority. The consent is important for regulating pollution, particularly from wastewater discharge.
As per a decision from the 214th Board meeting on February 19, 2024, buildings that received an occupancy certificate from the local government by June 30, 2015, but have not yet obtained consent, can apply for the first "Consent to Operate." They must pay a fee that is 5.5 times the annual fee based on their capital investment. If the building is eligible, after scrutiny and inspection, the consent will be granted for five years, expiring on March 31, 2029.
The first application will not qualify for the renewal fee concession but can avail of such concessions during subsequent renewals.
