The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) on July 03, 2024, issued a notification regarding compliance with the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
The following has been stated: -
•The Battery Waste Management Rules - 2022, effective from October 25, 2022, require producers, refurbishers, and recyclers of waste batteries to register on the CPCB's EPR portal.
•Non-compliance will prevent business operations and lead to prosecution under the Environment Protection Act, of 1986.
•Stakeholders must ensure registration and adhere to the rules for managing battery waste safely. Illegal operations must be halted, and violations will be strictly penalized.
