The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) on March 07, 2024, issued the notification regarding the notice for prohibiting production, stocking, distribution, sale and use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) items and plastic bags less than 120 microns for the compliance of plastic waste management (amendment) rules, 2021.
The following has been stated namely: -
• All Producers, Stockists, Retailers, Shopkeepers, E-commerce Companies, Street Vendors, Commercial Establishments (Malls/Market place/Shopping Centres/Cinema Houses/Tourist locations/Schools/Colleges/Office Complexes/Hospitals and other Institutions) and general public to stop production, stocking, distribution, sale and usage of identified SUP items
• Selling as well as display/advertisement of Single Use Plastic (SUP) items on all E-commerce website is also prohibited.
• Rs. 50,000/- per ton shall be initiated against the violators
• The following products have been stated as example namely: -
o Plastic Sticks Used in Earbuds, Balloons, Candy Icecream
o Plastic Cutlery Items: Plates, Cups, Glass, Knoves, Tray Straws, Fork and Spoons
o Plastic Packaging and Wrapping film used in Sweet Box, Invitation Cards, Cigarette Packets
o Other Films and Bags: Polystyrene (thermocol for decoration), PVC, Banners, Plastic Bags below 120 Micro
