The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) on September 16, 2024, issued a notification regarding imposition of a Special Condition with regard to in-house treatment and disposal of solid waste in the Consent to Establish and Operate to be granted under the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and Authorization under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The following has been stated: -
•The Competent Authority has added a special condition to consent under the Water, Air, and Solid Waste Management Acts.
•Waste generators must prioritize the decentralized processing of biodegradable waste. Preferred methods include bio-methanation, composting, and anaerobic digestion. This minimizes transportation costs and environmental impact.
This office order will come into force with immediate effect.
