Secretarial ComplianceThe Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), on December 20, 2024, issued a Policy for Sharing Data for the Purpose of Research and Analysis.

SEBI has introduced a uniform data sharing policy for Stock Exchanges, Clearing Corporations, and Depositories to streamline access and protect sensitive information. Data is categorized into two baskets: (1) Publicly shareable aggregate and analyzed data, including mandated reporting data, provided free up to 2 GB per researcher annually, with additional requests incurring costs; and (2) Non-public data like KYC details or anonymized data that could indirectly identify individuals/entities. MIIs must frame policies for these categories, submit lists to SEBI within 60 days, and review them annually. Researchers must justify data requests, and implementation is required immediately, with progress reported to SEBI within three months. This initiative ensures a balance between data access and privacy.
