The Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization, (PESO) on September 09, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Additional Safety Measures for New Petroleum Service Stations.
In accordance with CPCB guidelines new petroleum service stations must maintain a minimum distance of 50 meters from schools, hospitals (10 beds and above), and residential areas. If constraints reduce this distance to 30–50 meters, the following additional safety measures are mandatory:
•A minimum 2-meter-high RCC/brick masonry boundary wall (230 mm thick) on sides facing schools, hospitals, and residential areas.
•Underground tanks to be placed in a concrete pit.
•Tanker unloading platforms to be positioned away from schools, hospitals, or residential areas.
•Refueler loading or parking is prohibited at the station.
•These measures aim to ensure safety while adhering to CPCB guidelines and PESO standards.
