The Ministry of Coal on December 20, 2024, issued the Draft Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024 to amend the Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition and Development) Act, 1957.
The following has been stated: -
•In section 2 of the principal Act-
(i)In clause (b), for the words and figures "section 617 of the Companies Act, 1956", after the words and figures "section 617 of the Companies Act, 1956", the words, brackets and figures "or clause (45) of section 2 of the Companies Act, 2013" shall be inserted.
(ii)In clause (c), for the words, brackets, and figures "Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948", the words, brackets and figures "Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957" shall be substituted.
•In section 10 for sub-section (2), the following section shall be substituted, namely: 10 (2) mining lease period.
Comments on the draft may be submitted by December 27, 2024.
