EHS ComplianceThe Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, (MSPCB), on August 16, 2024, issued a Prohibitory order on the use of stream or well for disposal of polluting matter along the Rongal River.

Following the Hon'ble National Green Tribunal's order dated 25-07-2024, has prohibited the disposal of polluting matter into the Rongai River and related activities under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Key provisions include:

Section 24(1)(a): Prohibits knowingly allowing pollutants to enter streams, wells, or land.

Section 24(1)(b): Prohibits disposing of materials into streams that impede water flow or aggravate pollution.

Section 43: Prescribes penalties, including imprisonment (1.5 to 6 years) and fines for violations.

This directive addresses illegal sand mining and pollution, safeguarding river ecosystems and water quality. Violators will face strict penal action.
