The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, (CBIC) on December 23, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Enabling Voluntary Payment electronically on ICEGATE e-payment Platform.
The ICEGATE e-Payment Platform now supports Voluntary/Self-Initiated Payments (SIP), replacing the manual TR-6 challan system. Users can generate self-initiated challans for voluntary payments and make payments online without requiring prior Customs officer approval. This facility, accessible post-login for registered ICEGATE users, supports payments for past imports/exports and not for live consignment clearances.
The following has been stated-
•Payment modes: Internet banking (9 banks), NEFT/RTGS, Payment Aggregators, and Electronic Cash Ledger (for IEC holders and Customs Brokers).
•Manual TR-6 payments will cease post 31 December 2024, except with specific approval.
•A detailed user manual is available on the ICEGATE portal to assist stakeholders.
Trade and Customs officers are advised to publicize and facilitate the transition to this digital payment system.
